I love watching ideas come to life and guiding students as they learn to express themselves through color, form, and imagination.

As a visual art instructor, I believe in nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and personal expression through the practice and appreciation of art. I focus on building a strong foundation in art techniques, including drawing, painting, design principles, and visual storytelling, while also encouraging experimentation and personal voice. Students learn best when they understand not only how to create art, but also why it matters. Through exposure to diverse artists, cultural contexts, and contemporary issues, I help students make connections between their own experiences and the world around them.

As an artist skilled in both digital and traditional drawing, I bring a versatile approach to the creative process. As a teacher, I aim to help students build a strong artistic foundation while embracing the possibilities of digital drawing. I encourage them to express their individuality and develop confidence in their creative abilities, all while refining their technical skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Sofia Caldas is a Colombian Visual Development artist. They received their BFA from the Academy of Art University. They have many years of experience in art education and believe that the art classroom should be a safe place to harbour imagination and encourage curiosity through playful and colorful mediums.

I believe through art, we inspire confidence and a sense of self that supports students in all academic areas. Art is a tool for young people to express, explore, and gain agency by contributing to the world around them. As an educator, I work to motivate creative confidence and provide students with the knowledge and ability to reimagine the world around them through skill in visual observation painting, drawing, craft, and digital art.

Connie is an industrial and interior designer based in the Bay Area. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design from San Jose State University. Connie has a genuine love for children and enjoys helping students spark their imagination and creativity. She believes every child’s creativity is unique and hopes every child can learn and grow in a happy, supportive environment.
